UV5r Frequency DAT Files - Barney - 20 October 2016

Hi all, first post but probably not the last

Just a quick question for the more techie among you

I have a UV5r and came across the file downloads on the main site for radio frequencies. When I tried to open the "pre" and "post" shtf DAT files using the Chirp software (to upload to my uv5r) chirp doesn't seem to recognise the DAT files, or rather chirp just loads up some gobbledegook with lots of error messages.

Question is, should I be using different software to open the files or am I going wrong somewhere ? The other files seem to load in Chirp ok.

Many Thanks
Barney

Scratch that, it's just me not using the chirp software correctly

Pick up a Nagoya brand antenna off ebay for a fiver, they are way better than the standard Baofeng stick. They also make a magnetic mount antenna for less than a tenner which is a great help when using the rig in a car.

A lot of owners don' realise you can use these little hand helds to listen to FM radio stations too.

Thanks

I was looking at those antenna last night as I had to order another programming cable and the bloke selling the cables also had them, the cable i had seems to have disappeared during a recent house move. I didn't realise the antenna were so cheap so I might as well get one and try it
