Yes it is and many are sleep walking into it!
For many years I have believed that this would happen. At present they are the wealthiest country in Europe. They have always been an industrious nation. Their people have never been afraid of work. We too, Britain that is, have in the past been very industrious as well. However, since the Second World War our nation has declined, in fact, I feel that we are now decadent. I attribute this to Socialism and an invasion of Foreigners, aided and abetted by recent Goverments. Kenneth Eames.

very true Kenneth, trouble is this country is now radically different to that just after WW2, partly the fault of immigration, the EU and the excesses of the welfare state, we now have a generation or generations who have never worked in their lives and dont intend to, and kids who think being a celebrity is a career, this country dosent feel like the one i grew up in, in the 50s and 60s!
I agree 100% with Kenneth, its simply no coincidence that the UK went into terminal decline right after WW2 when two things happened, first the creation of the benefits and welfare state, secondly the begining of mass migration to the UK.
i dont think you can blame the welfare system, the original idea was a good one, but modern politicians have mucked it about, at one time you had to work and pay taxes and NI for a few years before you could claim anything out, now you have immigrants who have never worked in this country claiming benefits from the moment they arrive.
After WW2 might have something to do with being bankrupt and in hoc to the Americans for the next 50 years + of course we were obligated to break up the British Empire so the Yanks could claim the top slot. Also the science & art of capitalism & the never ending drive for profit at all costs was perfected. The amount of money this country earns could easily pay for the NHS many times over. It is the corruption throughout all levels of society that wastes it all. from the top to the bottom. No different to other Euro countries really, just that the UK is much slicker at it!
I am afraid it was Socialism that broke up the Commonwealth with their belief that all peoples should be 'free'. Although their idea of freedom was to enchain people to the state from the cradle to the grave. Another thing that the Goverment did, was to turn our back upon the Dominions who supported us and sent us very cheap food during the war years. Also, we have to remember that we continued supporting those countries that were within the Commonwealth with money and allowing their people to come here to live. People wonder why I detest Socialism!Thank you, my most up-to-date-rant. Kenneth Eames.
Any welfare system that allows people to take out more than they put in is just plain and simple wrong.
