I was having a shufty at garlic on the internet and came across this extract...
Garlic's health benefits and medicinal properties have long been known . Garlic has long been considered a herbal "wonder drug", with a reputation in folklore for preventing everything from the common cold and flu to the Plague!
It has been used extensively in herbal medicine.Raw garlic is used by some to treat the symptoms of acne and there is some evidence that it can assist in managing high cholesterol levels. It can even be effective as a natural mosquito repellent.......
I was wondering does this have any basis in fact? If its a mozzie repelant would it repel fleas that carry plague too?
worth a bit of study methinks.
Maybe Kenneth can enlighten us a bit more?

just found this...

I used to eat a lot of garlic and in fact did smell of the stuff, got quite a few comments from mates and family, this was raw bulbs I swallowed, now a days I tend to eat it daily but chopped and cooked with my foods, there are quite a lot of claims made and growing garlic protects other crops from some insect attacks for just being near said crop, so it is said.

There is some history about French clergy not dying during the bubonic plague in London while the English clergy died, due to the fact the French eat garlic.
why do you think there are these legends about vampires and garlic? its not that the legends are fact but the fact there is a legend.
eating garlic does repel fleas Smile
we got 9 cats, the fleas dont bother me much, but really go for my mum, but whenever she has garlic, the buggers just ignore her like they ignore me and me dad

anyway garlic and onion are great antiseptics, well onion is, and i think garlic is too
Well that's that sorted then...
Plague be buggered!!!
From personal experience I would say that garlic 'deters' mosquitos, it also deters people; including friends and family, that might be useful too in some circumstances!
It's also supposed to be relatively easy to grow and doesn't take up a whole load of room. It can even be grown indoors in a few flower pots.
(Personal experience of using it to deter mosquitos, no personal experience of growing it)
hell its everywhere wild garlic is really common, at least where i live, the streams are lined with the stuff (on the banks either side)....not to mention all the woody bits, i dont think it would really need to be specially cultivatedTongue
Many scientific studies on Garlic has established the facts already mentioned. It will be an essential in a survival situation. Do a search on the net and ask for scientific studies, as well as general useage. Do this for many other herbs, such as, Red Clover, Burdock, etc.. Kenneth Eames.
