I think that I'm very lucky to have a wife that believes in Prepping and on many occasions takes the lead. She is a 'Child of the Empire' so is still in touch with lets say a more down to earth style of cooking and living. She was also a military wife for many yeras so is used to going without and having to live for long periods of time without me.

Each week we set prepping goals and targets and set each other projects.

The wife does without flowers, boxes of chocolates and nice holidays abroad. She doesn't mind and when for her birthday she got a P7 Lenser torch she was over the moon!

I can understand why many partners are just not interested in prepping, but I would like to hear of other peoples experiences and how they deal with the 'non converted', also I'd like to hear about the preppers partners that are really 100% juiced up about the whole thing.Wink
I don't have a oh and its going to stay that way I had nothing but grief off him and when I left I lost about 90% of my preps so I'm not doing that again. Mind you my son is pretty good and if he passes his adsc and gets in the army he's promised to help me with bits and pieces but I'm not doing to bad anyhow.
My boyfriend thought I was mad at the beginning, Moaned at me for "Wasting money " But everytime I bought something, I in my weird, funny quirky manner explained why we could need them,
I made light of the matter and made it brief, I think he thought it was just a weird stage I was going through.
My boyfriend is into the political side of things and hates the government, He can now see the mess the economy is in and can see a meltdown, This coupled with my prepping has finally made sense, he supports me 85 percent of the time now, instead of not at all. I find it quiet refreshing when he suddenly makes a suggestion about what we should do towards the next stage of survival Smile
My wife canot stand the Armageddon / Mayan Callender / Global apocalypse stuff it drives her mad, but prepping for winter storms, unemployment, rampant socialists, industrial action, drought, flood, shortages caused by speculators or climate, gang crime, terrorism, riots, ethnic unrest, social collapse and she is totally for prepping. She like I are both products of run down council estates and the welfare state mentality that keeps them ran down.

Our grand parents were preppers by defaukt they set aside stuff they grew etc during the summer to help feed us through the winter, I can remember my nan saying she always gets an extra 4 bags of coal in after the winter of 64 when no coal wagons reached us for weeks.

Today I see the just in time logistics systems used by the supermarkets, industry etc and I see a very delicate, very complicated and very vulnerable supply system ust waiting to fall down. I see Yank , Russian, Indian, Aussie grain harvests decimated this year AGAIN.
I see the welfare dependant screaming they want more and more from the tax paying workers. I see a police for totally discredited and NHS not fit for purpose, a parliament of three partys none of which serve the nation.

I see trouble ahead and unlike some who think the tax payer, rich, council, charities etc should care for them i see it as my duty to protect my own family.
Wife is well on board. Comes shooting with me, let me devote the spare room entirely to preps (I even threw the bed away to get more room), buys me prep stuff for gifts etc.
When she goes shopping by herself she always buys more tins etc

Big Grin
wife has lived in a rural remote cottage with no mains water(hand pumped well) and cooking off a range, no electricity, so she is more of a prepper than i'll ever be, she has also done farming and is a very wise countrywoman and herbalist.
she agrees that there are threats to the country that we need to adress but she dosnt think that prepping i.e food stores are the solution. she as do i believe that learning to live off the land 80% is enough. plus saving is not a possability in our lives lol so i cant say i wouldnt have say a dried food stores ect. but when i'm hunting abit more our chest freezer will be stocked up with game and fish plus i'm planning as a project to build a small smoke house at my bol and want to be smoking and drying alot of game next summer.
Thank you All,
Marvellous answers thank you all. What I get from other ‘Preppers’ is a strong sense of independence and the ‘Roll up Your Sleeves and Put Your Back into it’ mentality that our grand parents would have lived by. The family unit seems to be important even though the nuclear model of ‘2.5 children and Mum and Dad’ family unit we grew up with is long gone for many of us.

For the wife and I Prepping brings us together and after twenty years of marriage that can only be a good thing. Only yesterday we were watching a Youtube clip about making chutney. The chef was a Punjabi Sikh gentleman and he was making a Pomegranate Chutney, my wife started crying and I asked her why? Her grandfather had taught her this recipe as a small child along with other basic food crafts. She was so happy to see this again and it reminded of those warm and carefree days; more importantly it reminded her of the roll of older people in a natural society and the need to pass on skills.

Much of what we do together is just that, we remember what we were taught and we bring it back and use it in our preps. From soap and candle making, producing cleaning equipment and other household products to understanding what grows where in the garden and at what time of the year.

Working together empowers us and we are often surprised by just how much we achieve. It is the polar opposite of the modern world and how men and women are supposed to act in this so-called enlightened age, but as we know the modern age is deceitful and self indulgent place.

Hi Wildman,
Yeah that is something we are looking at too, a smoker; also a clay oven as I think unlevened bread takes less cooking and less ingredients, food can also be rolled in it and stored if you are required to move quickly.
