I'm surprised you've not heard of him.
A wee potted summary of what he did........
Dick Proenneke retired at age 50 in 1967 and decided to build his own cabin on the shore of Twin Lakes Alaska. The first summer he scouted for the best cabin site, and cut and peeled the logs he would need for his cabin. He returned the next summer to finish the cabin where he lived for over 30 years.
He used only tools he took with him. He filmed his life on a wind up bollex camera. The man even crafted the door locks and hinges from wood using basic equipment. Awe inspiring!
I had not heard of him either, but a real handy guy for sure, If I had woodland, I would have a go at building a cabin.

did D.P. ever write a book?
that dude is my hero also, learnt to build a log cabin from watching that video. never built one, but watching dick in his vid, i understand so much coz of him.
Seen this before and have to say the guy is quite an inspiration
