This is the result of HideandSeek's excellent post about how to tap Birch trees.

I'm going to cheat and be a bit lazy and find stuff on youtube that I know how to do....lazy because it's time to eat and I can't be bothered typing loads.

Not done this with shells and stones, but the same basic principles apply. Although I like to add LOADS of cinnamon and more set honey than he's using.

There is obviously the pine needle tea as well!

dont forget you can start fires with pine cones, OH used to use one in her Aga..it goes off with a bit of a bang but apparently it works!!

My 2 year old know's his pine cones. If you hear a cry of "PONE CONE" then you should probably duck. Cause that means there's one airborne and heading straight at you!!

I use pine cones in my stove regular. They are great mixed with kindling, catch easy, burn hot and produce a superb glowing cone mass for a while before disappearing. They are like nuts and hold a lot of energy within. They are light too and easy to transport. Kept dry, they make excellent fuel that can be stored a long time, like wood. They give off a pleasant smell in open fires. They are easy to gather in your local environment at the right time of year when they fall to the ground and can also be shaken from the tree at this time. They can also be easily gathered on the hoof.
