I think the thing to try and see here is....how did society survive and evolve before money came into existence?
Mankind existed for so long before we became a slave to the monetary system.
Now I'm not saying that paper and metal money hasn't had its advantages, but I don't think that it's a fair system ( how do you put a price on a manual workers hard labour?)
To be honest I think we would be better off without it.

Maybe we need to totaly re-think what our understanding of money really is?

Money has been around for a very long time.
But to go back before money you go back to a culture where people possessed very little and could carry the few tools/items they owned.
I don't want to go back to that point, it's accompanied by most disease being incurable and a life expectancy in the 30s.

Money is a means for us to do a trade when I have something you want but you don't have something I want of equal value. Without it trade hugely reduced. Much trade allows us to specialise, which while it has some risks, allows us to focus on things we are good at (and hopefully enjoy doing) and makes all of us more profitable than if we each tried to do everything.
the only way i could ever see any thing work is by either you all become a group working together with rules wrote down and agreed upon with no money and no greed and every body getting a job to do, if they can't do it at that time then you help another member and everything is shared out equeal.
or you group becomes a capitist group with a market and market account and a job market.
you sell your items to the market for an agreed price (fair) or you sell you labour for an agreed price. then the balance is marked in a book just like you bank book, the more credits in the book the rich you become and nobody sees this book just you and the banker.
if you want to buy something from anybody you ask the banker to transfer the amount to the other person.
just like a bank now but honest after all we the people will be make our own laws and punishment for rule breakers not like the HMG giving our money to the idiots we have now!
socialisim or capitalism your choice?
Grumpy,

Got to be capitalism. We have never really had it and every socialist experiement has failed with lots of people dying.

I'm not a lover of the manager of the book idea. But the book itself is not an issue.
someone needs to be the manager otherwise people would prob just and credit when ever they wanted or set really high value on the things they have.
Well you don't need a manager, just a librarian to check the book is updated correctly. So two people with keys and the book is updated, validated and returned.

You can set the price on anything you want now to as high as you want. Good luck selling that £3000 egg.
a librarian would work fine but would they become a manager just by managing the updating and yes you could set your own rates the 3 grand egg would be hard to sell but i think people would eggspect to get that for their things,
we live with unrealistic people
If you're restricted to only trading within a small group but still have specialisation then you run the risk of monopolies. I have the food, you need the food, I can set the price of food as high as I want because you need it and can’t get it anywhere else.
that may be true for a small group of people, but not if you sell the idea to other people this is where you need a manager so they can keep things fair and deal with anyone, they could sell the idea to other people which would lead to the market place expanding making more choice for people.
by doing this capitalism is born!.
if some set the price of their things too high and people can't pay that price you get robbed and lose your stuff or the people find another way to get it from some where?

And thus a Despotism is born
