I have personally used Truecrypt for a good while it is recommended on many sites to securely encrypt the data on your computer against being accessed without your permission.

What I suggest you do:

1. Where to download:

http://www.truecrypt.org/downloads

2. How to install and set up. NOTE: read points 3. , 4. , 5. before following this link below:

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos/..._truecrypt

3. In the first folder it creates for you to put stuff in this folder is accessed by the first 64 character password. In this first folder I recommend you to stick electronic bank documents, passport scan and other important documents. This provides a legitimate reason to be using Truecrypt.

4. In the second folder it creates which is secured by another 64 character password put anything you wish to secure against unauthorised access using a different password.

5. If you are at any time forced to give password access to Truecrypt give only the 1st password showing legitimate use. Never give the 2nd password as the data in the 2nd folder can not be accessed or recovered by anyone without the second password no matter what they do or who tries to access it.

6. Now follow the installation guide in point 2.
Aye, truecrypt is good. I think it's the same company who offer software that creates an "invisible partition" on your HDD with 256bit encryption (better than a bank) that you can only run from command prompt. Too many attempted entries though and it will scramble that section of the HDD, no way of getting the data back
