I found this snippet online and found it both handy and informative about paracord and its uses .

When i go to buy i shall be checking i'm buying the real deal...very interesting.

The cheap knock off para cord from the pound shop has its uses, looks like paracord but its got a weird woven nylon center that you can unravel and pull out, useful for sewing thread and such.
That still leaves the woven nylon outer tube for whatever you need.
I wouldnt like to guarantee its as strong as para cord but I can dangle off it at 220 lbs so....
