Hl ive had stitches, think it depends on the tooth,wisdom teeth have massive roots. I think they use a different method of suturing to normal injury sutures. If you get stitches you also have to worry about the socket filling with blood (dry socket) will ask an ex dental nurse and try and get some info

I have not been to the dentist since the 90s,Had to have emergency dental surgery in 04 at the hospital but that was it,Ended taking out the stiches myself that was bad enough
A good bit of charlie on your gums would kill any pain
