RE: Bone broth
I have told this story a few times on here , as a. Lad one of my (duties) every Saturday was to go to the next village to the butchers for a elderly couple , the order never altered much “ ask him for a nice piece of brisket but only if it’s nice ! And some bones for the dog , they did not have a dog ? …..I did mention it one time , he said don’t worry son I know what they want and why …..the penny dropped when I watched my grand mother made a broth from bones off the same butcher , in fact most all people did during WW2 still fresh in the minds of all people in our village and continued for a long time after and enjoyed by yours truly up my nans with some fresh baked bread ……oh happy days ! What I wouldn’t give for one more bowl and a crust of her bread , I think I’ll have a go myself …..very shortly ….wrapping her arms around me and giving me a squeeze she whispered shall I tell you a secret ! Yes nan what I say reaching for some HP sauce she squeezed out a table spoon full and added it to the broth a stirred it in …..don’t you tell anyone mind ! It’s my secret ….some times it was tomato ketchup but I remember the lift it gave to her soup, broth so there you go her secret is out ! But I’m sure sure she wouldn’t mind at all .
