I do not see it as being about running around on half a tank, the story talks about a half year figure. You might only fill up half a tank at a time, but that is not going to influence how much is sold in a 3 or six month period.

Less fuel used altogether I think, down more than likely to to foul weather and the cost of the fuel itself. When the weather is bad, people are more likely to spend leisure time at indoor sites rather than outdoor also, indoor sites are in general better served by public transport.

I have also noticed far fewer caravans on the road this year. This is a good thing.

The roads used to be packed on my school run to take my boy to school.
Ive noticed a considerable drop in traffic this last few months for whatever reason...
I tried to be normal once.... Worst two minutes of my life...

Dunno bout food , fuel, housing prices etc going up, that will have to wait until the wonderful socialists in the EU have taken an ever bigger slice of our money for them to waste on hair brained schemes.

Yup and they will prolly do what they do with huge oil shipments, they will fill grain ships to the gunnels then park it up out of the way until the prices go through the roof, then they will makes millions from our hunger.
