About Oscar Pretorius
Set aside the tragedy of the death of a stunningly beautiful woman this story brings to the for yet again the trend in westernised multi cultural nations for people to move into secure or high security residential develoments.
Mr Pretorius lived in the most secure community in South africa, it was commented on the radio that such secure enclosed gated , guarded estates were being built at an increasing rate as the end of apartheid has not brought the peaceful happy multi cultural paradise that was forcast.
Equally similar gated communities and secure estates are cropping up in France, Germany,Brazil, America and Britain (that I am aware of) but I'm sure they are going up in other countries as well.
I also recently read that many farmers are now being forced into installing better security systems for their farms and plant equipment because they are being targetted more and more by criminals who for some reason are not content living in those wonderful, diverse, inclusive, multi cultural socialist paradises that Labour created in our cities. CCTV, GPS tracking, better alarms, high security locks, heavy metal locking farm gates etc.
It reminds me also in the surge in sale laminated doors ( steel, hardwood, steel) to replace the much more vulnerable UPVC doors in many homes. I have a neighbour who I worked with for a month who installs double glazing and he noted that customers are now demanding the doors and windows are now secured in place with 8 and 10 mm steel self tapping bolts instead of number 8 or 10 screws.
Add to the last Met Commisioners comments about violent home intrusions in cities increasing so criminals can steal prestige car keys because car security systems are now so go they car cannot be stolen without the keys.
And one southern crime stoppers group noted that some criminals are following supermarket home delivery drivers to see who is getting valuable consumables delivered and when.
We are slowly but surely retreating behind high walls the way we did as a people 1000 years ago to keep the barbarians out.

RE: About Oscar Pretorius
I'm really not sure you can compare the SA gated compounds they call houses, with a gated community in the UK. They're worlds apart in regard to crime, level of danger in the area, intensity of the situation, threat to property, threat to life, etc. People in SA are able to own guns because they need them for safety. A friend of mine, that's doing all the legal paperwork for our move, came over from SA years ago. His home had 2 armed guards (assault rifle armed guards) at all times. The walls were like 3 meters tall plus barbed wire. He owned a load of guns and regularly carried with him. One of the rules in SA is, if it's dark you DON'T stop at traffic lights, or you WILL die! BMW stands for Brick My Windows, in SA.
A few months ago a man saw someone in his car late one night, and shot them from his bedroom window. Turns out it was his daughter, whom he killed! The level of protection and the application of security over here and over there are HUGELY different!!! Comparing "We NEED this or we will all be killed" and "It keeps the riffraff (poor people) out" seems a bit wrong. It's not like keeping barbarians out, because the gated area I used to live in (no not a prison, before you say it BP) had small fences keeping the animals at bay, because it was surrounded by either a hefting stone wall, for privacy, or it was farm land. You don't pay £500k for a house and want it overlooking a road. A fence looks poor and crap, so an ornate wall will suffice.
In SA, if you're white, you live in a 'secure' zone. You don't have a mix of races. Communities are either black or white. ALL while people living in SA rural/suburban/urban/anywhere-in-SA HAVE to have gated property, guns, and dogs. It's literally a matter of life or death!
In my opinion, and that is only opinion and open to being wrong, it seems to be looking for news where there is none.
But I do get your point.
On a more light hearted note.

WHEN WILL YOU PEOPLE LEARN?!?!?!? IT'S NOT SAFE IN THE COUNTRY!!!! RURAL LIVING WILL GET YOU KILLED!!!!! haha, sorry mate, couldn't resist.

guy on our estate went back inside his house, left his car on the roadside, key in the ignition engine running, where i come from that would have been gone within 5 minutes, but if i tell them they all look at me as if i'm crazy-so i've stopped telling them.
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

I heard the prosecution says he doesn't have a leg to stand on
Todays mighty oak is just yesterdays nut that held its ground
