Another media approach
E mail this time from a chap wanting to do a university thesis on prepping, preparedness, survivalism etc and its influence on modern society. This guy asked humbly and nicely and want to learn about us for genuine academic reasons so I'm going to meet him and let him interview me. So much nicer when you get aproached in a civilised manner.

RE: Another media approach
I think this one is more academic and into culrural change and development in modern society as globalisation makes the supply train terribly vulnerable to disruption.

RE: Another media approach
My very first approach was from someone for a university thesis.
My latest is someone from South Africa. What is going on?

RE: Another media approach
I think we are becoming the must haves for Journos, trainy journos and film makers CVs, They use to live getting interviews with psychopaths mass murderers and IRA terrorists but thats passe now. Either that or the cynics are losing out to common sense but i doubt it.
South Africa !!! last contact I had from Sooth Efrika was some right wing chep living in an all whete town, I would not have anything to do with him. I did have a good interview some years ago with an Aussie chap who published a small survivalist newsletter who was based in Narrabundah ACT, they being survivalists themselves were very well balanced and unbiased. But still the kindest and most professional interviews I ever had were with American folks. Thats how I developed a good long lasting trusting friendship with my now deceased dear friend John in KS. His family took my wife and I on a guide tour of 6 states and we met loads of survivalists, homesteaders, right wingers etc best damn month I ever had in the US.

If it's an academic paper, you'll have to sign a load of papers saying that your words are your own, genuine, and things like that. I know because I had to get loads printed and signed when I did my dissertation.
Also, try and get a referrence for his academic institute. He should be able to tell you where he is from instantly, as well as tell you which lecturer is overseeing his work. If he doesn't know those things straight away, be suspicious.

RE: Another media approach
I'm always suspicous, but from what I make out the kid wants to learn about real prepping and survivalism from a mature family perspective and not the Rambo, Wannabe or Armchair variants, I get the feeling he is looking for something for himself more than his studies and he is trying to avoid all the comercialised garbage. My gut feeling is his student status is being used to get access to me as he knows some of the kids I helped at Durham uni a few years ago. Hes not asking for much to be honest just a good chat to help him build a foundation of very basic knowledge to work from. With my IQ being less than my shoe size I dont think he will gain much from me but what ho we shall see
If I dont trust him I'll direct him to the other forums
