a couple of years ago wife and I met up with some so called "bushcraft" types, they camped on top of a "scheduled ancient monument" which is illegal, one mile from the car park, we gave up at that point.
as far as Devon is concerned the tourists tend to concentrate around the coasts in official camping and caravan sites, with toilets and shower blocks and a shop,if not a clubhouse, the only reason you see a tourist out here in the countryside is because they are lost.
