No, they were, and still are, employed by business owners who like to pay lower wages than many British workers demand.

The employers will keep saying "we can't get British people to do the job....", but perhaps it's more accurate to say "we can't get British people to do the job for the wages we want to pay....." or even "we can't get British people to do the job unless we cut the CEO's 3 million pound bonus package...."

Not prepping though, unless you factor in that many of them are now going home to find work, leaving vacancies you might want to fill.
