London More Dangerous Than NYC?
London has overtaken New York City for number of murders for the first time in over 200 years... Britain’s multicultural capital edged ahead of the American city – once so notorious for its high crime rates that it was chosen as the setting for Charles Bronson’s Death Wish – in February, The Times reports.
London saw 15 killings to New York’s 14 over the course of the month, and appears to have outstripped ‘Gotham’ yet again in March, with 22 killings to 21. Historically, London has had a murder rate per person between half and one-twentieth of New York’s since 1800, according to FBI data and studies by University of California researcher Eric Monkkonen. The change is partly a consequence of Mayor Khan’s campaign against using stop and search on ethnic minorities, with London police chief Cressida Dick admitting that constables have become “fearful” of confronting suspects as they “might get into trouble or might not be supported if they had a complaint”. Figures released last year showed London was already the more dangerous of the two cities for almost every other category of violent and sexual crime, with Londoners six times more likely to be burgled than New Yorkers, three times more likely to be raped, and one and a half times more likely to be robbed...
(The underlying problem with stop-and-frisk – as it is called in the US – is that the practice is based on laws that prohibit citizens from carrying weapons for their own defense. In past years, the relative murder rates in London and NYC were cited by the left as an argument for greater infringement of the RKBA (right to keep and bear arms) but some on our side pointed out that the disparity between the two cities was obvious as far back as 1800 – at least a century before Brits began losing the RKBA. “Multiculturalism” – which, in Britain, seems to have boosted drug trafficking and related gang activity – appears to have reversed the historical trend.)

RE: London More Dangerous Than NYC?
I'm still here
I once got talking to a New York girl in a London pub about 10 years ago, and even then she said she felt more nervous in London than New York. The reason she gave was that New York has a grid system so if one starts getting into a run down area you just turn around and head for the lower street numbers, whereas London roads are winding and good areas are often back to back with bad areas. Having also visited New York myself I agreed with her.
Scotland too cold and not very fertile land, Wales though .....

In NYC the very rich and politically "well connected" can get gun permits, but it is impossible for the ordinary working bloke.
I am told it's now the same way in Washington, DC although that was not the case back when I worked there. Even law enforcement personnel from surrounding jurisdictions and active duty military were not permitted to carry unless it was for "official business." I was lucky that most of the time I was required to be there for work, I could arrange to be escorted by somebody authorized to have a badge and a gun...
Now that I have retired out in the sticks, people are polite and the crime rate is low because everybody carries.
It's not the wild west by any means. I expect where MB is the situation is similar.

RE: London More Dangerous Than NYC?
OH YES!
Very similar here.
Kentucky has always allowed open carry of firearms and ones vehicle is considered an extension of home, so vehicles are normally armed.
It makes for a very polite society and prevents road rage incidents and car-jackings.
My county of 50,000 had a murder about 10 years ago and that was a junkie son killing his father and mother due to rage for cutting off his supply of drug money. You are going to have that kind of trash anywhere.
The adjacent counties to the north have a more dense population and have a murder or two every year. Most are either drug related or murder/suicide deals over love triangles. Those would probably be accomplished with knives or sticks if guns were not around.
I have a major urban sewer a few miles to the north of me where guns are controlled more strictly and the crime rate is therefore much higher with lots of kicking down of doors in occupied homes and strong armed robberies on the street.
Folks that want to kill each other will find a way, even if it means they run the one they are after down with a vehicle, and 10 or 20 others that get in the way.

47 th murder in London this year last night, a young girl of 17 or so, must be gang or drug related- or both.
the trouble with these people is they have no OFF switch.
makes me glad i'm living in the provinces.
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

RE: London More Dangerous Than NYC?
I once saw about 15 youths armed with machetes chase another youth through a bus station in broad daylight. Their manner, apart from violent of course, was weird in the sense that to them there was no one else around, like all the other people around them weren't there.

OK here is where our thought processes diverge.
If it is not safe to walk down the street for fear of a drive-by shooter or a hit and run assassin the $#!t has already hit the fan!
Just because one can hide in their own neighborhood, buy a can of beans, and turn on the lights does not mean things are OK!
New York is the wrong place to compare. These numbers, one dead every two or three days, remind me of the casualty figures during the Iraq War.

RE: London More Dangerous Than NYC?
Unlike in the movies, when somebody is shot, even several times, they don't drop on the spot or spray blood across the room as if wielding a spray bottle in a Sam Peckinpah western. Here is one repeat offender who won't repeat:
http://wgntv.com/2017/03/16/dramatic-vid...ity-guard/
ROCKFORD, Ill. -- A Rockford security guard will not be charged in the fatal shooting of a man who tried tried to rob a bank, WIFR reports. Surveillance video shows a masked Laurence Turner coming into Alpine Bank, shooting once in the ceiling, then at Metro Security Officer Brian Harrison, a former Winnebago County deputy, who jumps to action.
Turner, who was on drugs at the time, was shot twice and died at the scene.
Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office says Harrison's actions were justified.
"There is no doubt in my mind the actions of Brian Harrison saved the lives of those that were employees in the alpine bank location on that date and saved his own life," State's Attorney Joe Bruscato said.
Officers also linked Turner to three other armed robberies in November and December of 2016.
