So what if

So what if
So here is the big question. At the present moment my family are all instructed with information of specific scenarios. If they receive a text message to dig in deep at home and secure the premises or whether to bug out. I don't live with my children, but they are well tuned to the world's present situations and possible outcomes. They understand digging deep is to remain at home and become somewhat invisible to the outside world whilst at the same time ensuring their safety and remaining healthy. they are equipped each with their own specific bug out bag, nothing too big just a day sack with essential survival equipment to get them through a few days. ( until I arrive ) so the big question is this. I'm sure many of you have contemplated it. Where do you go? at present we have two RV's set up. this is a temporary measure just to get them to safety. What the long term solution is, well that's the unknown. I guess what I'm getting at is the dreaded question of whether it ever comes to Nuclear war. Not complete world annihilation but limited attacks. Do you have a plan?

I have the same set up. Only a couple but you can't, or shouldn't, plan a scenario for every eventuality. A few can cover most of them and as long as you are willing and able to adapt you can cover the rest when they occur.

Plan for the most likely, bunker down, travel to X, go and buy what you can, fill up with fuel. If everyone has an action and a plan or two to meet somewhere safe then set that up. Anything else leads to confusion and may cause issues. No need for a Text saying Implement Option 212. for one thing the text may not get through and the other is they can't remember what Option 212 is. Best stick with everyone do this, these people do that and keep it simple.

Plans never service first contact under the best of conditions, why should they in a SHTF scenario.

RE: So what if
bugging out is IMHO a failed concept in the UK, all land is owned by someone even places like Dartmoor and Exmoor, and turning up on someone else's land could at least lead to confrontation and in some circumstances (WROL) could even be fatal.
better to hunker down and wait for the dust to settle, that is of course easy for me to say as I left the city 25 years ago and live on the outskirts of a small rural market town.

Agree with your comment. That is precisely why I have told them how to bunker down. Sadly they are not as lucky as you. Bugging out for them is the last resort and only a temporary measure until I can collect them and get them to safety. Thankfully they are not naive and have enough common sense to evaluate the situation. On the other hand their prepping for any scenario is limited and trying to explain to an ex wife these things fall on deaf ears. I guess that's why I have been doubling up here so there is a contingency for it.

most prepping can be used for any given scenario, I do not prepare for any event myself I prepare for what comes after which will probably be Societal Collapse and WROL.
I have heard too many people state that in the event of a UK SHTF they intend to go and live in the woods, most people dont have a clue never mind the skills and will be dropping like flies when the first winter comes. in any event that is most likely to be a STAG do as I cannot imagine many females putting up with the conditions.
the die off in this country will be so huge that there will be so many empty houses that bugging out will not be necessary.

BP,

You have to survive until they all start dying. That is the issue which is why I say make sure you have enough to keep you going through at least one winter.

yes I know that SD.
the start of the dying wont take long, most people dont have the supplies and arent prepared, about 3 weeks to a month with no food, less than that without water,
the suicide rate will sky rocket.

RE: So what if
I too live rural and don't have to worry about bugging out if that's a worry for your children then find alternative routes to leave a city.

Canal toe paths
Train lines in use or disused
Electrical power lines ( maps available)

Look at the recent megastorm in usa all roads and public transport routes were gridlocked.

If it's even a limited nuclear attack I don't hold out much hope for survival.

If you get to a place of safety you're be far from the only ones .. food ..shelter ..and country locals who won't be to helpful.
