RE: New article on Preppers
But a few army or armed plod can set up their own government and who will argue. Who can tell the difference between armed thugs and government? In reality there is none.

maybe not, but i think the difference between a govt and armed thugs will be very apparent....

RE: New article on Preppers
Plod and Military are trained to take orders from TPTB, if the govt fell apart...say in a SHTF situation...wouldnt they just go home to their families??

Yes in many cases but there will be lots that just stick together and they have arms and training. What will they do then? Think about what you would do.

RE: New article on Preppers
There are, what the average Squadie considers to be good officers and bad officers,... I do believe that many soldiers would go awol,...and you cant blame them to a degree,... but there would still be many of them that would follow `good officers`, if only for safetly in numbers,... these would be the ones that are more likely to organise help where they could,...... the trouble with this is simply resources.
To get to the stage we are talking about,..things have gone bad already, in the first three days before any Military have sorted themselves out,.. people have taken what food there is,.. the Police couldnt stop that happening,... so what could the Army do?,..its no good saying that they would sort this out or that out if the Army themselves dont have the ability to look after themselves,..... remember that they need a hell of a lot of backing, the only real resourse they would have would be transport, with their own fuel supplies,.. there food would soon run short,..and in all reality where would they get that from,... we often think of the Army as being the ones to put things right,... but its the Army that needs far more suppilers than anyone to opperate,.... so I think that a Military unit may well stay in Barrackes and try and control their own patch

RE: New article on Preppers
yes, can see that happening. wasnt it Napoleon that says "an army marches on its stomach" ?? the trouble with any military campaign is that the "line of supply" is too far stretched, the more troops you have the more food and fuel you need, so in principle they are not going to go very far.

RE: New article on Preppers
As an ex-squadie, I would say they would stay in one area, and secure that area,.. then move out and set up another area when [ and if ] they were able to,... with the idea of links being secured between them,..and try to regain control in this way.
Its been the same for as long as their have been Armies,.. its the way any army invades,.. even during WW11 the idea was to land at different points and link up between those points,... AS AND WHEN SUPPLIES REACHED THEM,... without supplies of food and water,.. an Army isnt a lot of good, and will be forced to stay where they are, untill either they get food/water/fuel,...or the squadies go awol
