RE: Protecting your BOV
i wasnt expecting to hide it(the vehicle) from anyone that walks right up it, more of if i was taking temporary refugee in woods or scrubland and a casual observer was looking over the gate from a distance, more to break up the outline than actually hide it.

you need black sheets to put over the van first and make sure lights and windows are covered you then need poles too lift the netting to distort the shape of the van and if you buy smaller size netting you just say it's to make a hide as you do a lot of shooting or birdwatching don't try and buy a size that would cover a tank?

I'm not advocating stealing of course but if you happened to be walking the dog somewhere and you accidentaly got tangled in some sort of net and couldnt get it off till you got home and them couldnt remember where you were walking so you couldnt return it and it'd be against the law to dispose of it in an improper manner, so you'd best keep hold of it until you found out the best way of getting it recycled but it kept slipping your mind for a while.... years maybe.....

what kind of places do you suggest i "walk the dog", i cant say i've seen anything like that in my area, although i did once fall over a large roll of string/balecord and sort of "accidently" brought it home with meBig Grin

That sounds good. I suspect there are several people derving at her majesty's pleasure who had accidents like that.

not with our "touchy feely" limp wristed judges these days there arent, if they can let a criminal, or better still a illegal immigrant criminal, off a prison sentence then they will, but if you batter a burgular for breaking into your house, its you who will go to prison not the criminal.

RE: Protecting your BOV
Resurrecting this thread as I'm about to lay up the car for a while.

Wheels will be removed and the vehicle left on axle stands in a locked barn.

To make it look less attractive again, its possible to pop the headlamps without tools in just a couple of mins each. These will also be stored away from the vehicle.

One thought that came to me is, that after removing the battery, it is very easy to pull the two main ECU computers on the vehicle.

Keeping the ECUs in a metal enclosure away from the vehicle would ensure the vehicle is fully immobilized, and the enclosure would be afforded a gooddegree of electromagnetic shielding

For sure it'll take a very determined thief to make off with it in that state, and hopefully the dilapidated state will also make it look uninteresting for scavenging from.

I expect the time to disable it to this level and put it back to full operating condition will be around 1.5 hours each way. Most of that time will be for the wheels off/on as the vehicle is heavy, as are the wheel-sets.
