RE: to the bigots amongst us
i dont know about anyone else but i came onto prepping forums to learn what i should do when TSHTF, i'm really not too bothered who caused it or what caused it even but i want to know what to do WHEN it happens. when i had had my fill of the American sites with their arsenal of weapons and room fulls of bullets i started looking for a BRITISH site, eventually i found the old UK Preppers site where i came across this strange person called NORTHERN RAIDER who once i got over his strange Northern sense of humour started to make sense and got me started with his lists of this and that. this I believe is what is needed for our younger and newer members to get them started on the right path not talk of aliens or secret societies. good old down to earth sensible information on what we need to do NOW before TSHTF and how to live safely AFTER TSHTF. other sites have gone on to be just tinfoil/alien type forums or they have been turned into knitting circles where all they talk about is the weather or the price of mushy peas, i dont want this site to go that route, so can we PLEASE get back to basics?

strange but true my friend, apart from putting together a small box( wooden-the type wine bottles come in) of emergency food..something i could just chuck into the back of the car and GO! i knew nothing about survivalism..OK i'd seen those programmes on the TV about the American survivalists..that Louis Theroux person..but that was it. it wasnt until we got our own computer when we moved here that i was able to get online and get more info. i came to prepping late in lifeBig Grin

RE: to the bigots amongst us
As far as I am aware, this is a forum for preppers. Other niche oddities need not apply. Simples..

My recent limited posts has been due to work commitments and not apathy. Nevertheless, I have noticed a decline in the number of quality new posts and the reply posts that follow, over the last couple of months. There seems to be a mass of inane comment posts in reply to each & every post put up. There is also a lot of asking the same questions about topics posted on many times in the past. This grows wearisome and detracts from quality input. It would help if knowledge seeking members researching subjects would search the forum first for articles already dealing with the subject. Also, "sometimes" older members do actually have more experience and have become wiser and so their differing views from more inexperienced members need not be a cause for derision. I will honestly say that I do not "know it all", whereas some members imply that they do, but upon observing their posts, it later becomes apparent they are exaggerating, verging on blagging. I am a tad disgruntled with this and tend to post less as a result. I am probably not alone!

RE: to the bigots amongst us
I've not been a member of this forum very long at all.

What I noticed was some really , really strange posts , the content of which - to forum lurkers , would seem paranoid in the extreme.....it nearly put me off joining the group. Sad

I had the idea that this site was dedicated to preparing for , and surviving the total breakdown of our social structure. It had hints and tips on a lot of good shit , reviews of equipment , and even had the forward thinking idea of actually trying to form workable plans to be acted upon, come the time.

All it needed was for it to be filled with like-minded individuals.
Which hasn't really happened , because we are all individual , with our own priorities , opinions and views.

Some people might say - whats all the 'big brother' orwellian shit got to do with prepping ?
Some people might say - whats the economic . political structures of the rest of the world got to do with uk preppers ?
Some people might say - whats a comms network got to do with me survivng SHTF ?
Some might say - whats music videos got to do with uk prepping ?
Some might say - whats fat pats shingles - thats stopping her from building her earth-ship right now - got to do with prepping ?

Now I know there are areas to put certain 'narrow interest' (if you'll excuse the term) - posts in , things which aren't directly connected with prepping , and I am all for retaining these , but please can we divert from the 'some people are narrow minded and want to control our views' type of posts , it only serves to create more division ?

I don't want to come onto this forum and see endless youtube music vid links ( sorry hrusai Smile ... ) , I can goto youtube for that myself , by reading down through it , I was actually cutting down the time in catching up elsewhere - but here's the thing - some of us obviously DO think its appropriate to post up what music they are into , and are interested in what the others are into , which is fine with me too , who am I to over-rule anybody else ? If people get offended by something like that then take it to a PM , don't involve the rest of the forum , leaving because of something like that can easily be avoided.

The point I am trying to make is - different strokes for different folks.
We need to establish where our posts are going to go before we post them up, we need to make the decision - is it prepping related or not ? , if not , then it goes in one of the other sections.

Nobody wants to watch noobs like me waffle on all the time , but we have to realise that this site is led by the 'elder' preppers , people whom I have already learned a lot from...if we are doing anything on this forum which is driving THEM away then we need to stop, look and listen.

I respect nearly Angel everyone on the site , frankly some of the members are very susceptible to internet related paranoia Huh , and dont realise how gullible they are by thinking that those 'underground' news sites they trust implicitly are any more factual than al-jazeera.
Others would have had us heading for our bug-outs when the riots started up last year.

Its good to have a human interest side on the site too , but that isn't what brought me here , and probably not what brought YOU either.
This is , after all , a UK prepper site - not facebook , youtube , ATS , friends reunited yadda yadda yadda.
Trying very hard not to be paranoid.....and it aint getting easier.

RE: to the bigots amongst us
i agree with alot of what you say, we all have different things we wish to take from this site, and there may be things (like the music you mentioned xD) which you dont like, but you simply ignore it, theres plenty of stuff i dont give a monkeys about, i just ignore those parts.

any reasonably clever person can make an argument for just about anything and how its related to prepping, its down to individual thoughts on subject matter and what you wish to take from the site, personally i not only wish to learn, but to socialise with like minded individuals and make some friends!

but yes i agree, none of us have the right to over-rule anyone else (except from SD obviously!!) if we are so overtly offended by anything in particular its a simple case of shoot people a pm, we are all friendly enough with eachother to not be excessively offended at such a message!

so at the end of the day, read what you want to, if you think its pointless, just ignore it, it aint hurting you is it? just because you disagree doesnt mean it needs to become a problem Smile

anyway i dont think theres much point to this thread myself, its a bit stupid, we're all adults here and we should all be able to view everything subjectively and not be offended by things that arent geared towards us or even that offensive Tongue

I'm 43 some members smoke weed some don't, some have never touched drugs in their life, some do other things, whether I agree or not is beside the point, its not my place to point it out in the forum if they print something I don't believe in or care about.
Quite often I read other members posts and think "oh dear that's a load of old shit" or "thats fuc*ing weird" but I don't write it on a post, I just think it to myself, that's called manners, something the world and sometimes this forum is short on.
Older preppers used to encourage younger newer preppers, now they browbeat them into thinking their way or basically slander their posts if they themselves don't believe whats been written.
Preppers are supposed to be different than the sheeple, a cut above the rest, together as a community not like people who should be on jeremy kyle.

Here, Here...I'm almost 40 and was raised with manners. It takes all sorts to make a world and people have different opinions and beliefs on everything and that is their right but to publicly humiliate someone on a forum for having a different way of thinking is damm right rude !
If/when TWAWKI happens I thought us preppers would kinda be on the same wave length? S

Seems some preppers are just out for themselves? This may be fine during the disaster but what happens when communities need built up again...what is going to change? I thought we were going to change the world for the better/ No more fighting, no more badness....If this is how things are going to stay after TSHTF....I think I would rather d i e with the others at the beginning....A world with no peace, no hope AND STILL NO FUTURE...WHAT IS THE POINT???????????????????
Keep your rude remarks to yourself s, bite your tongue and either go to another post or post your differences in a politer way....yes?
