When do YOU start looting.

RE: When do YOU start looting.
I think the morality of "looting" is determined by the event,
If you imagine say a pandemic has killed off all but a few, then surely taking foodstuffsand equipment from stores without owners would be legit ?. I would never take without consent unless my hand was well and truly forced but its just that kind of eventuality that plan and prepare. Still can't hurt to add lockpicking and dynamic entry to the bag of tricks though eh ?

Yes,... but there is looting and looting,... none of us here are likely to want to raid a shop in the first few days, and certainly not the kind of looting we have seen in recent riots.

But after many days or months of a serious event and coming across an empty house or even town/village,.. then rummaging around for anything that you think will aid you,.. is not looting as I see it,..its surviving

I call it looting when L & A is still in operation and there is no NEED to steal stuff, I call it salvaging after L & A has collapsed and theres a living saving need to recover and secure supplies that could perish or be ruined if left.

I'm still a teenager so people would probably stereotype me and get suspicious if I didn't.

I do see the moral to this NR,.. but to be honest if most of us were in a situation where by we knew we were short on something, or need to do something in the near future,... would we wait untill such times as law and order failed before getting it

I know that I wouldnt, if I was short on something I would try to ensure I get it before I was in dire straights, I would concider this act to be a nessesity in my survival,... I am sure hundreds of people would be doing the same, including the law enforcers

I am not sure if there would be a time when there would be `no need` to loot,....ok if an event was slow coming then of course we should all hold fast and let the authorities deal with it,..and us,.... but if the situation was fast coming, and the shtf within days, then I wouldnt be holding fast and hoping that the authories would help me

This is why we are preppers of course,..as preppers we are trying to have things in place so that we can go while others panic and loot

Join the wolf pack, and remain unharmed.....if you're smart about it.

On a follow on from Destiny's comment........what equipment do you have for looting?
WEIRD QUESTION HU?!?!?!?!?

Here's an example of what I mean.

Lock picks
Backpack
Glass Breaker
Gloves
Crowbar
Spraypaint

I'm not asking whether you have a specialist kit for breaking and entering.....then leaving with a new surround-sound system.

I just mean, if something happened, do you have the equipment to break through heavily reinforced glass (seriously, anyone saying they'll use a chair or something like that, is seriously underestimating the strength of these windows!!!) and then get through the shutters too?

You could drive a car through some shops, but not all. Many places have new style curbs that are meant to burst tyres when taking a direct impact. Our local Morrisons could NOT be ram raided! They have huge security pillars (I think most Morrisons do now) and would slow the car, if not stop it DEAD!

I'm a strong guy, by pretty much any standard, and I know a crowbar would take me AGES to get through the strong windows at Tesco where I work.

Tip, if you do start looting, don't try to smash a window from the middle! They're built to flex and absorb kinetic energy through the sides with flexing. You're 100x better off starting at the bottom corners where there is less flex and more breaky-breaky!
