After reading that article yesterday I gave some serious through to what it would take to get a good old Valve based radio transmitter and receiver up and working again. Valves being immune to EMP. The downside being that they consume a lot more power, are a lot physically larger and tend to fail much more frequently than a transistor.
You can pick up old ones but the problem is old ones are already old and reaching the end of their life.
