Socialising to be trust and familiarity among neighbouring preppers is not a bad thing at all, it would be like mini RVs.

I would not like to see formal regional chapters, call signs, logos, cliques or inner circles though, or regional organisers / secretaries etc because that is the first step to little elitist cliques and I'm utterly against elitism or little groups of " in" people bullying or dominating other members.

Both P2S and UK Preppers have gone the "regional Organiser" route and i think it has spoiled them, i would not like to see SUK go the same , i think we have something good and wholesome on this site.
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

SD will be the final arbitrator on this, I do know a good deal of our membership is made up from people who fled P2S and UKP because of its organised structures, ruling cliques and other niggles, many say so in their introductory posts. I would hate to drive these excellent people away.

I was banned from P2S for having a different set of values, i tried to help UK Preppers see further than unemployment, sickness or financial woes, but they didnt want to know and i was politely asked to leave, SUK suits my style and thoughts on Prepping and i dont get shot down for having a different opinion-well not much anyway !Big Grin

I may not have chosen my words very well, but I'm from the outside, I had very little to do with P2S or any other group. I would just like to meet up with other members in my area for support, mutual support and companionship. I don't do cliques or brown nosing, I'm very much a 'Lone Wolf'.

I would prefer also to meet local SUK members because I can't afford to travel to many of the larger events mentioned on this forum.

I love this forum because SD set it up following a very similar vision on how the guys n gals of UKSG and Wydening Gyre envisaged those pioneering forums were run, OPEN, almost no moderation, total equality for newby or oldy alike, no elitism, debate was encouraged and contentious issues welcomed for debate. SD's vision for a forum so exceeded my own expectations I was happy to not bother setting up any more forums because his efforts were vastly superior to my own. And his hands off small government approach ensures vibrant debate thrives on here.

SD mon ami your thread and subject is absolutely fine, its absolutely great to encourage localised groups of preppers to get together and meet up, your concept is sound and valid, Mini RVs are fabulous back up comms systems as everyone in any given area will know where and when they can contact fellow preppers on a semi regular basis.

I think BP and I are just a tad war weary when it comes to seeing forums get set up with good intentions only for them to be taken over by control freaks and elitists.

The best thing I can suggest for the curious is to go and join the other forums and see what they like / dislike for themselves.

BUT getting back to local group gatherings GO FOR IT, but pretty please keep it informal, and I ask VERY humbly for organisers to do just ONE thing for me " If you have RVs and there are new members there make a solid, hard, concious effort to bring them in and involve them from the start" IE treat new members the way you would like to be treated yourself.
Need to find a way if differentiating tween Skean Dhude and Seal Driver cos I can use just initials any more !!

Skean Dhude = SkD
SealDriver = SeD.

Would this help?

Might be an idea to call me Seal, N.R. I have just realised the S.D thing is a problem too...Big Grin Plus it's the initials of a website I put my life's blood into just to see myself on the outside of for the very same reasons you mentioned about your experiences with other 'Prepper' forums.

I'm happy here and for all the reason s you gave.

I'm recruiting some of my friends who are more into self sufficiency and surviving off grid orientated to join this group. They wouldn't be seen dead on a 'Johnny Rambo' type Prepper forum.Smile
In fact if my friend 'Long Sword' is reading this as a visitor to this site, he should become a member and stop lurking!Wink

I also agree with what NR has said, its a good thread Seal with a lot of protenial, but should never become more that a way of putting names to faces for those that wish to, it may help to form small groups that can come together if the shtf,.... but as far as the forum goes, the formular is just about perfect, I wouldnt want to see any sign of the slightest split, and if anything was made `official` that is the way it might go over time

Yes this forum certainly is 'All things to all men/women' and something that S.D should be very proud of. I tried to do something similar on a number of occasions, but I found to my cost that some people just can't be trusted to be fair minded and honest. I like the idea of co-operation between individuals, no one in charge, mutual trust and the spreading of knowledge, but it is rare to get that in the real world.

I have yet to smell even the whiff of a troll on here and when I have got some negative remarks about my posts, other members have made sure that both myself and the other member could climb down without embarrasment to either party...very rare indeed!

So if anyone is near my neck of the woods, I know of a great pub that used to be the local gaol (jail), courts and hangman's gibbett, very atmospheric place and good food to...so If any of you fancy a pint?Wink
