RE: Beef jerky!
Beef Jerky is only thin pieces of dried meat,... no salt needed
A major part of survival is invisibility.

But eating it on a regular basis will increase the amount of water you will need to consume to digest it. so In a BOB I avoid it and replace it with Spirulina Capsules.

I just read the Wikipedia report too, including the bit further down the page, 'Possible health benefits and risks'. If the USA can't guarantee they're contaminant free and the Chinese are saying they are contaminated with heavy metals, I'll pass thanks and eat bits of coo! Smile

Moooo!

If you're worried about contamination then buy Australian brands as they have to have less than 0.02 % contaminants to be sold...that's less than Cola products.

Also the U.S has cleared it as they have been feeding it to astronauts for a while now as have the ESA.

Snap! I was a 3rd generation butcher myself :-) although I'm mostly a veggie these days.

Funny - that's the one thing he wouldn't let me do - butchery. He let me go into the Army though, at 15! Smile
