RE: Introducing a new local currency after an event
Grumpy,

Agreed. People will help each other. They always club together and help in bad times. However, this situation is different. We are not a community. Most people are not preparing and unless you have enough to share with everyone you all die. You want to scrimp and save and then share with those that have not so you all run out? Rebuilding a decent new society will not be on a socialist basis. Sure some will start but they will be the ones with little growth and people like us won't want to live in them.

I'm not so sure you are but it does not matter. Barter will start up the first time you make friends with someone and will go from there. A new coinage will take longer but is inevitable.
