Mathews Genesis PRO compound bow
I know many of us love our Barnett Banshee quad 25 pound bows, part of which is the supposed fact that a 25 pound COMPOUND delivers the same amount of energy to an arrow as a 35 pound RECURVE bow **. This puts it into the seriously useful category for budget conscious preppers especially as they are only £45 a piece to buy.
But a few folks keep asking me that if i wanted something a little bit better but did not want to throw money at it, what would appeal to me.
Well first I spotted the SMK ARC 3112 which looks similar to the Banshee but is adjustable to 40 pounds draw and is a bit shorter than the Banshee at 35 inches. But i did hear a few grumbles about the quality of this bow.
So then I looked at the EZ archery budget compound bow, its around £150 to £170 and again is of similar design to the ARC3112 and Banshee but apart from its price I cannot find much out about its pedigree.
Mathews Genesis PRO
Then I got an E mail suggesting I take a peek at the Mathews Genesis compound, I initially immediately discounted because its only rated at it as 20 pound draw weight until my correspondent friend told me the Genesis had now got a bigger brother called the Genesis Pro this little best is adjustable to 25 pounds draw and is fully capable of taking most of the accessories and tuning parts the budget Banshee cannot.
The pro also comes with an integral draw stop device to ensure your arrow release is utterly consistent.
As for its pedigree it turns out that the Genesis is the American standard training bow for every American schools archery training course. Mathews has some tens of thousands of them to schools, clubs, kids camps etc
“”(A) NASP Genesis Bow
**The Official bow of the National Archery in the Schools Program®
Universal draw length compound bow. Zero let-off. Adjustable draw weight from 10 to 20 pounds. At 20 lbs of draw weight the Genesis™ has the same kinetic energy as a 35 lb. recurve bow! Available in Right and Left hand. Machined Aluminum components and composite limbs. “”
This bow is designed to grow and adapt with the archer be he a growing youngster or a newish archer whose skills develop, you don’t NEED to buy a bigger bow.
Again this bow is UNDER 36 inches tip to tip so for us preppers its nicely compact for concealment
Parts and accessories are available from this highly reputable American manufacturer, so obtaining spare strings / servings for caching should be easily achievable.

Bow sports has em in at £170 and they look to be worth it, revues online are generally very positive

I must admit I would love a bow with a bit more quality and adaptability that can accept accessories and still be used by Mrs NR and NR junior as easily as their Banshees.
