Todays edible weed....Persicaria maculata
Here's another useful weed, it grows everywhere and is easy to identify. Note the dark spot on the leaf, the red colour of older shoots, and distinctive flower. I'm chewing some now, it tastes vaguely of apple peel, not very tasty at all, but apparently quite nutricious.

Edit to add correction: Persicaria maculosa

Thank you Steve for this one. I cannot recall ever seeing this plant but, will certainly be searching for it in the future. Whatever its taste if it can feed you, its worth finding. Kenneth Eames.

Ah yes, I know this plant as polygonum. I've got polygonum superbum in the garden. I think it's in the same family as knotweed. Never thought of eating it though.

I was pulling a load out, it has invaded my peas, and I wondered if it was useful for anything. I was surprised to find it was edible and nutricious, so I might let some grow ( well away from the veg patch).
