Catching bird for emergency food

I've recently taught my 10 year old nephew how to build an arapuca live bird trap:

We did use a different trigger than shown as this was too heavy and slow. The one we used was a more of a paiute deadfall style trigger.
The next morning I got an annoyed text from his mum (my sister-in-law) telling me he'd caught a live black bird and she'd had to release it!
