potatoes and onion storage no no
While I was just researching what gas rotting potatoes make that's so deadly, I saw an article that says not to store onions and potatoes next to each other as they each make a gas that rots the other.

Anybody know if thats true?

First I've heard of it but worth knowing if its true.

Jst found another bit that says not to store potatoes near apples pears or bananas as they excrete ethylene gas!!

aparently this encourages ripening and makes them sprout!!

So dont put your head in a sealed bag with an apple or pear....
I tried to be normal once.... Worst two minutes of my life...

Yes, it is ethylene, bananas give a lot of it out as do other things when ripening. Hydrogen sulphide can be produced when things that have turned to sludge decompose in certain circumstances. Potatoes and onions may be mentioned as they turn to a sloppy mess that could form and exclude oxygen. It is compounded when lots are stored together, don't check through regular and poor examples of crop saved.

I think you would need half a ton - ton at least in a confined space for it to get deadly.
