From my own boyhood experience, lead buckshot of SG or larger size are about optimum. If you already have a mold to cast buckshot or round balls for a blackpowder cap & ball revolver, any size from about 8mm to 15mm is effective. For birds or rabbits a group of six to ten No.2 lead shot works well at close ranges with 10 metres or so.

Dungarees???
We "good old boys" refer to those coverings as overalls, properly pronounced "overhauls".
They are the most divine invention ever created by the clothing industry and every prepper should have a pair. Once you wear them for a heavy job of work you will be satisfied with nothing else.
They are an instant cure for the belt cutting one in half partway through the day due to weight in the pockets. They are also a remarkable instant cure for "plumbers butt", that syndrome where the pants creep down to expose the upper portion of the neither regions when bending over.
Be advised that if one orders a pair of "overhauls" on line they must be specified in a size several marks larger than the normal. They shrink severely when washed.

The United States Navy, Merchant Marine and Marine Corps utility work uniform is still commonly referred to in the service as "dungarees." While the Navy bell bottomed old blue denims, blue chambray cotton work shirt and "Dixiecup" hat and Marine sage green herringbone twill of WW2 have long since been replaced with Marpat, drill instructors and Chiefs still call them "dungarees," sometimes "utilities," but never "fatiques" (the Army terminology) because a Marine is by definition physically fit and isn't permitted to be "fatigued".....

Marines are never fatigued because they do so little!
In the Army if you weren't exhausted you weren't working hard enough!
