Because the thread was looking at planting things instead of caching them. With Deer eating everything a cache of food growing would feed the deer not the person.

The way I read and understood the post is .......to plant a food that will come every year and to hide it in amongst other vegitation ....on your way to your Bol or close to where you have access sounds like good advice to me , you could mark these places on your maps......you could have many of these in different areas where you have knowledge of the areas .....or not....-at least YOU know where to find some food.,,

In a dire situation I would be hunting deer year-round and stockpiling the meat as Italian style dry sausage, jerky or biltong.

"Liquid Smoke" is a hickory or mesquite flavored seasoning we buy in the grocery.
