Freeze Dried Expedition Breakfast - Review
I recently purchased a number of packets of freeze dried foods including a couple of Mountain House. MH ain't the cheapest on the block and so I wanted to give a few others a try. Here's my review of the first.

Expedition Breakfast Porridge with Fruit and Nuts

http://outdoorsgrub.co.uk/shop/product_i...ucts_id/31

Price £4.05

Comes in the usual bag into which you pour your boiling water.
Shown as 600kcals so quote a substantial wallop.
However, I wasn't too keen on the taste although it was reasonably fruit and nutty. Although I stirred it, it remained watery in parts and lumpy in others.

Somewhat bland. If there's nothing much else then its fine but I don't recommend it. 3 stars out of 5.

As an addendum, I am not sure of the purpose of freeze dried porridge.

My alternative would be to take 1kg of Porridge Oats, 400g of Dried Milk and a cup of sugar or stevia. Shake well and store. It's not instant but a couple of minutes with some water and then heated for a few minutes should do the job.

Enjoy

Thanks for the review RS.

I was going to ask about 'why FDed porridge' but you answered that yourself.

If you have some small mylar bags you could make your own and add a sachet of sugar or 2, or even a small syrup tub (McDonalds style..but it would be a little bulky) then vacuum pack them yourself.
