So if the leak has been contained you just have to bide your time and wait for the pollutant to pass down-stream?

Distilling water will remove chemical contaminants.

In summer it could be possible to use a solar still

In winter water could be distilled using heat from wood burning etc.

That's what I thought LS. Although when I finally get round to making my still it won't be water that's coming out at the end...
