I sent NR Junior to the other end of the village with the Uv5RC with the longer rubber duck antenna on it to see if I could pick him up on the other set, range about half a mile with most of the village being between us. I could just about make him out intermittently !!! BUT I did pick up a van driver who said he was on the A1 near the Angel of the North up in Tyneside over 22 miles away!!!! in the other direction ?

That's the problem with comms. They are not consistent at all. There are so many things that interfere with them.

After an event it will be much quieter and then your concern will be keeping them shorter range for OPSEC
