Right, get ready for this. It is steeped in history and a load of emotional challenges and moral questions. It might get really intense, so I'll try and joke about with it a little, but the essence of it is is a real challenge.

Right, we're looking at what has historically been proven as 'expected behaviour'. There are at least 2 instances of this happening on a large scale, in recent history, on a world wide stage.

The first time was early in WW1 and the second time was early WW2.

I'm talking about the Baby-Boom generations.

Are you ready for this?

When the lights go out, people will get up to naughty-time. No sniggering those in the back. It's normal, and if you can't accept it like adults, then please just go online and look at pictures of kittens being cute.

History has proven that when the lights go out and entertainment is not readily available, people go back to more primitive ways for entertainment...plus it helps you keep warm If you do it right, it's awesome cardio too!

The issue isn't about over population. That's a stupid thought. Since we are looking at a collapse, we know that there will be a die-off, so the odds of a major population boom is pretty weak.

The problem we'll be facing is that of increased pregnancy and people begging those around to look after their babies. Many refugee nations have been known to give away their children to orphanages or other families that are better able to look after their babies for them.

If you're there in your compound and you hear a baby crying, would you go and help? Could you turn a heavily pregnant woman away? Could you say no to her and her baby? Could you cope with the sound of the crying?

Would it be wiser to take her in and the baby, just to shut them up and stop the screaming from bringing people in the area over to you?

There is so much to think about with the scenario of increased pregnancy.

People will be having more unprotected sex. There will be less contraception available. Prescription contraception will not be as readily available.

There's a whole load of factors that say that WTSHTF, pregnancies will go up in number, and suddenly the people you're dealing with become more volatile, but also more of a moral issue.

I'd love to get some views on this.

Cannot and will not dispute the facts - the human population is the biggest disease on the planet, in my opinion.
Having said that a bit of education, common sense and a sense of responsibility drilled into everyone from an early age would not do anyone any harm. It would also, I feel, improve the quality of life for everyone generally. Of course the truth is that I know nothing about all of this, I am just a boomer.

Yes and as the births will be 9 months down the line from SHTF it will mean more deaths of infants and mothers if the mothers have survived that long. Or died within the first year from birth.

I'd guess that pregnancies would go up for various reasons, if it's TEOTWAWKI you might have to consider outright rape as well. As John mentioned, baby deaths in the first year would be at a much higher percentage than it is now. Then again, how many mums would die giving birth without all the benefits of being in a hospital? A baby's cries would certainly attract attention and without readily available food, mum would be struggling to feed two essentially. Then there's disease, yikes, the list goes on.

Would I help a mum and her crying baby? There's a loaded question if ever I heard one, I sincerely hope I could and would!

Simple, I would have NO choice, I would have to help ....but how many? That's a bigger question...how moral are your morals .....a tough one S

post SHTF crying babies, in fact ANY loud noise, will attract attention and could lead to unwanted visitors! and NO I wont be taking in pregnant strangers or strangers with young children so don't even bother banging on my door.

Taking in baby or taking in heavily pregnant woman?

Yes or no is contingent on too many variables to give a cut and dried answer.

Morally I'd like to say yes.

But I fear most likely the answer would be no. No because of noise generated, No because of extra ( excessive?) draw on stocked provisions, No because of word getting out that I was in a position to help, No because of word getting out that I am an easy touch.

Sorry to say that my door is not going to be the best one to knock at.

NO, my preps and resources are for my family and my friends and any reserves are for other preppers not sheeple, they made their socialist beds and now they can lay on them. Every meal I give a stranger is one less meal for the children I am responsible for.
