Yikes! A slow decline for the next 35 years. I thought they were talking about me. A very interesting piece seemingly backed up by hard facts. Of course it will get zero news coverage so as not to panic the masses leaving those in charge time enough to fiddle their expenses and build that 2 storey underground concrete extension to their lovely Cotswold des res.

35 years? where do they get that figure from, it'll all run out faster now we're on the downward slope that it did getting to the peak, places like India and china are wanting more and more oil, there usage has already gone up in the last few years, so I wouldn't rely on any figures banded about, the OPEC nations lie about how much reserves they have so its a lot less than they admit to.
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

One aspect of peak oil that very frequently gets overlooked is the remaining oil though still plentiful is much much harder to get at and extract which means the cost of it is going to go up and up and up. That itself is going to be damaging to ordinary people like us. BUT countries utterly dependant on oil are going to suffer far worse as their economies struggle.

I'll add the list of common products made from oil below for those who don't have a copy.

Products made from OIL

Imagine the effects of a world deprived of mineral oil and natural gas, it’s not just the fuel for your car, or the gas for your cooker you need to consider, but very many other products that are directly or indirectly made from hydrocarbons like oil, This is why you need to consider storing many other extra items as well as food, fuel and medicines.
Look at the list below and think how much you need supplies of these items and consider obtaining extra supplies of the things that are essential to your lifestyle.

Oil makes petrol, diesel, heating oil, bunker oil, grease, lubricants but also
Ammonia, Anaesthetics, Antihistamines, Antiseptics, Artificial limbs, Artificial Turf, Antiseptics, Aspirin, Auto Parts, Awnings, Balloons, Ballpoint pens, Bandages, Beach Umbrellas, Boats, Burns dressings Cameras, Candles, Car Battery Cases, Carpets, Caulking, Combs, Cordura, Cortisones, Cosmetics, Crayons, Credit Cards, Curtains, Deodorants, Detergents, Dice, Disposable Nappies, Dyes, Eye Glasses, Electrical Wiring Insulation, Fabric Conditioner, Faucet Washers, Fishing Rods, Fertilizer, Fishing Line, Fishing Lures, Food Preservatives, Food Packaging, Garden Hose, Glue, Hair Colouring, Hair Curlers, Hand Lotion, Hearing Aids, Heart Valves, Ink, Insect Repellent, Insulation, Insecticides, Laundry Detergents, Linoleum, Lip Stick, Milk Jugs, Nail Polish, Oil Filters, Panty Hose, Perfume, Petroleum Jelly, Rubber Cement, Rubbing Alcohol, Shampoo, Shaving Cream, Shoes, Toothpaste, Trash Bags, Upholstery, Vitamin Capsules, Water Pipes, Yarn, Plastics, Lubricants, Gasoline, Diesel, Heating Oil. I don't think its actually ever going to " Run Out" I think its simply going to become a luxury item that only the wealthy will be able to afford. Its getting harder to find, more difficult to recover, costing ever more to refine and demand from Asia and Asia minor is pushing up demand by crazy amounts which again drives up prices.

I reckon that in my sons lifetime its going to be government, agricultural, council and military vehicles with fuel and the masses back on bikes, buses, trains, metros, tubes and trams.

Mid Mo when I was young no one ever believed petrol would reach a pound a GALLON, near mind over a pound a litre.

RE: Peak oil triggering TEOTWAWKI
Unless we are in a period of hyper inflation, then commodities are end priced at whatever the "suits" and their "taxing political partners" assess they can get away with exploiting from the masses. It is always an unstable ever shifting calculation of what will turn the best return for minimum outlay BUT will not result in diminishing returns due to declining purchasing by the masses. The more the "Hype" and green credential spin can be ingrained onto society, the more justifiable the higher and ever rising cost. It does not run away too much though due to the cost/effort calculation already mentioned.

As it is the profit on the black stuff is extensive and is hidden by a chain of supply/middlemen and domestic companies of which the latter declare a minimal profit while the preceding semi-hidden companies do not readily publicise their many Billions of profits per year.

This means that in reality the black stuff is probably not going to run out any time soon and the newer ways of extracting it either through deeper drilling or fracking while publicised as more expensive than ever before!! (shock horror) are in fact inevitably so due to the inexorable onward march of currency inflation. ie a loaf of bread costs today much more than a half a shilling it might have cost 50 years ago. In reality the cost is proportional to a percentage of value that equates to a wage earned, whether that be in the 1950's or now or in the future.
Therefore the new ways of reaching the oils and similar fuels is not quite so expensive as it is made out to be and also the new technology and 100 years of practical on-site & geological mapping experience actually make the process comparatively easier than it would be using 1950's tech.

In summary, the price is "rigged" and will always be until some big calamity or social upheavel affects the markets, at which point the price may rise exponentially with hyper inflation but then so will everything else and if that is the case, then the cost of fuel for your car might not be your main worry. regards, TL.
