Oh cheers. Thanks very much.

I'm a Mormon, but unlike most of the faith, don't really give a stuff about who or what you believe in, as long as you do believe in something.

After an event, if I'm still here (and not burning Tongue), think it's going to be the case that if you're useful, you can join my group, won't matter if you have a different view on faith than me.

Apologies if I have offended anyone but that is my personal view.

No need for apologies Talon, your feelings are as valid as anyone's. I think problems would arise if one faith outnumbers another, as experience has shown us that one religion will try to dominate another if given the chance. I look at the practical problems of having multi faiths in your group. Take food practices, if you have Jewish or Muslim members they would expect any food they consume to be blessed before killing/sacrifice, I can't see many English folk putting up with that SHTF.

I think If I had a group, I would have to say to keep religion private, unless it's a majority of one religion similar to the Gas Rig community in Alex Scarrows Afterlight book. And you would of course have to be on the lookout for those willing to use religion to exploit others, I.e. the guy who uses his status as a devout christian to worm his way into the group and create his own faction. I have absolutely no problem with religion and religious people in a survival group in general however, and I say this as a former atheist (Deist now, currently reading the bible) who used to have a whole folder of "anti-religion" arguments on his computer. Sad I know...
Woe to those who add house to house and join field to field, Until there is no more room, So that you have to live alone in the midst of the land!

What you guys are really saying is that YOU are "top dog". No higher power will be allowed to influence YOUR group without YOUR permission and YOU will not allow any faction to interfere with YOUR decisions.

Guess what??

You still believe in God.

He is YOU!

Well, I am surprised by some of the replies. I expected a majority vote of "no religion" in a rebuild of society. I didn't realise what a patriarchially-inclined lot you are. I was expecting a clean sweep and a totally new start. So much of the trouble in the world is religion-based, I thought you might view a rebuild of society as a perfect chance to ditch the old and try something new. Guess I was wrong.

I would prefer to take my chances in a society which tolerates a diversity of ethnicities and religious beliefs than a purely secular and amoral one lacking a miral compass. There were ample examples of facists, socialist and communist regimes in the last century which killed millions of dissenters who were deemed a threat to the state or the world order. Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung, and Adi Amin would applaud yohr efforts.

No thank you.

what anyone else's religion is either now or after TSHTF is of no possible interest to me whatsoever, just don't try indoctrinating me with your particular brand is all I ask. a visitor who once asked "have you been saved?" got the door slammed in his face, and we regularly get JW's around here...their knock on the door is ignored.Big Grin

Good question Mary.

Old and new testament bibles are in my library, not because I’m a devout Christian, but for moral guidance for me and subsequent generations in uncertain times ahead.

Not wanting to open, nor get embroiled in theological arguments, but when you think about it, The Bible can be construed to be the ultimate instruction manual for human survivalism, and a significant repository of knowledge covering such topics as agriculture, medicine, geography, genetics, society, and ethics.

The troubles of the world are not religion based, they are people based.

Some of those people latch onto a religion to manipulate other people to suit their personal needs for power and control.

They will even reengineer a religion to meet those personal needs.

Same for governments, education systems, military establishments, and social networking systems.

All of the evils one finds in most of those establishments run straight back to a personal power and control issue, and not to an inherent evil in the system.
