Steve, just been checking that Silky out. Very impressive. The vids of it seem to be based around smaller diameter logs.

What kind of thickness is it still faster than a chainsaw in your experiance?

I've had Bahco Laplander for about 5 or 6 years and its in an invaluable tool, I would now never use a bow saw, the Laplander is so much quicker and easier to use.

But saying that the Silky's are also very good and a mate of mine who is a thatcher by trade also swears by the silky's.

When the Laplander needs replacing I will probably go for a Silky Pocket Boy

WOW, that's quick!!!

Up to about 50mm it's very quick. Over that the chainsaw leaps ahead, not surprisingly. It is capable of felling trees up to about 250mm ( as proven by my son when he went camping in my woods with his mates ).

Quick, quiet, no fuel required, featherweight - what's not to like ? If you sharpened the back edge to a razor you'd have a pretty useful butchery tool too.

Just taken delivery of a silky PocketBoy, the Laplander will now be keep in reserve.

Not had a chance to use it yet, but compared with the Laplander, the blade feels a little thin, but the face of the blade is much wider/deeper than the laplander, so I guess that gives it more rigidity, but also a bigger area to jam against.

Will have to see how it compares with a 5 year old well used Laplander.......
