Our local comp school has a mini farm and workshop where they teach farming, basic forestry, carpentry, agriculture, animal husbandry, metal working etc, I think most modern comps will often have similar sources of salvageable tools among other things.

Dev,

Good point about specialist tools. Yes, its imperative to have a toolkit that will meet the needs of repairing and servicing whatever technology you intend to rely upon.

In a post TU world, I for one will not be visiting any of my local farmer neighbours without an invite. Farmers are, always have been, and always will be the best prepped in the community. They also have the means and resolve to defend what is theirs, and the ability to clear up any traces of such activities.

that may be ok for some who live in larger towns, provided the local bully hasn't got there first, I prefer to get my tools now and not post SHTF when they may or may not be lying about.

that's just what I'm saying you silly plonker, better to spend a few pound coins at a car boot and get the items we need NOW, than expect and hope to find them lying about after TSHTF, it might even save you getting some lead pellets in your backside!!

or worse!!

Do you think they'll be OK with you stealing their tools ? I'd be a bit miffed if someone tried to break into my toolshed, someone else might shoot you.

Aside from the obvious dangers of burglary, you might consider that the tools you are likely to find are going to be common DIY tools that you probably already have.

non of us know how any shtf event would pan out, but knowing my local area , who has what , ie red d tanks , wild pigs in a small wood , tool/tractor sheds ,stocks of barbed wire fencing and fencing posts , chicken pens with loads of feed , loads of stuff.

remember if tshtf all the rules are gone and its everyman for himself.

Exactly!

Which means you are taking unnecessary risks by not prepping.
