As mentioned these radios will work just fine on the PMR446 channels. What hasn't been mentioned is that they are capable of operating in the gaps between these channels, as well as transmitting and receiving on separate frequencies. In my mind this would make you less likely to attract attention from the authorities and less likely to have your conversations overheard by people with common PMR sets.

They are wickedly flexible to reprogram using Chirp that's for sure.
