The sheeple are starting to learn, 9.45 am Sky News guy from environment agency telling people they need flood PLANS, make provisions to EVAC, modify their home to increase flood resistance, have a plan on where to go, keep essential gear to take with you if you evac etc.

Lady from Appleby on the local radio saying her home and her holiday let next door were taking out NOT by water coming through the door or under the floor but by a huge filthy surge of water coming back up here downstairs toilets and kitchen sinks, definitely a need for one way valves in such places methinks.

Is there a central civil defence / emergency services dept in the UK, or is it all localised?
In Australia the emergency services department has downloadable emergency evacuation (ie. bug-out) plans, lists for 72-hour emergency packs (ie. bug-out bags) etc.

Both Jace, Councils have Civil Defence obligations and so does the national government, its a tiered system, EG in the Bostcastle floods a couple of years ago rescue helipcopters came from as far as Northumberland to help out, In the Somerset floods, sappers, rescue teams, boats and crews came from right across the UK. Last night on the news I saw Kent Fire Services guys helping out in Carlisle.

In the UK individual prepping and contingency plans were often ridiculed at all levels, but after 911 / Madrid/ 7/7 that died out and various agencies now encourage people to prep.
