RE: Very Nice Concealed Gun
I was quiet over this one but I must make some noise at this point.

Actually I do not have too but I am going too.

The pistol in question is a fantasy trinket. It is still a "concept" which means that it is a computer image and does not exist, and probably never will.

If it did it would be totally unsuitable as a survival tool in either the rural or urban settings.

I have several two shot concealment pistols, they are useless! No range and limited firepower.

I own several pistols that are half that size and hold 5-7 rounds.

I own several pistols that are the same size as the one promoted and they hold 7-15 rounds.

Mine are also produced by well know first line firms and not fly by night promoters looking to gather funds to produce their "first prototype".

These gimmick firearms are the fodder for first time gun buyers with no experience with a gun past reading the magazines. anyone with a shred of firearms knowledge, or knowledge of survival using firearms, would never consider one of these toys a valid tool for 5 seconds.

The true pity is that most of the members of this forum will never get the chance to gain the experience to make mistakes on their own, lose a good deal of money with bad purchases, and learn the advantages of ownership of the various handgun designs available.

You have the right to purchase pistols that are totally unsuitable for your needs and uses!

Too bad most of you will never get the chance to exercise that right.

Quite apart from it being shite it's a flawed concept , concealed as a mobile phone(hidden in plain site!!!!!!) when whoever is searching through your stuff comes across it they will wonder why you have 2 (the real phone and the(andI use this term loosely)the gun , my first thought if I were the searcher would be to turn them on and take a look , straight away you'd be busted , better of without for the good it might do you.
Nothing is fool proof for a sufficiently talented fool!!!!

Do not know about the UK but over here two phones means up to no good!

1. you are cheating on the spouse using a "burn phone".

2. You are dealing drugs using a "burn phone".

3. You are stealing phones.

On very rare occasions a person will have a personal phone and a work issued phone, but twol phones draws immidiate attention.

At any rate, I have a permit to carry concealed weapon, as I think CH does also. I carry habitually, on a daily basis. I would be embarrassed to carry such a comical piece of kit on my person.

Were I to be stopped and searched by the police, which has never happened, I would want them to think I knew what I was doing and had a bit of class while doing it. A quality piece by a quality maker gets you some respect from TPTB, a piece of junk or a toy like this gets you the stink eye.

RE: Very Nice Concealed Gun
When I had a work-issued phone, I was subject to emergency callup 24/7, so my employer specifically authorized that phone for personal use as well as for work. They didn't want anybody distracted by being on a different phone. The employer had "ruthless pre-emption" and could break into a personal call when needed.

As for the phone look alike gun, I agree with MB. Such an item gives a false sense of security and is liable to be useless if you really need to use a personal defence weapon.

If licensed to carry you should carry a well proven sidearm and holster which has a proven track record for safety, reliability and durability in professional law enforcement undercover use. There is big difference between "hobby" sporting firearms for hunting and target shooting and "professional" grade firearms suitable for extended period, every day concealed carry. You MUST be trained and develop competence suitable to qualify under the same courses of fire and conditions that sworn law enforcement and serving military personnel do. Anything less is folly.

CH &MB

Just a thought, but what's the situation in USA about legal shooting training?

As a non US citizen, if I were in USA, would I be allowed to take part in hands on training of the sort you are advocating, without having a gun license?

Maybe you guys should be commercialising the option to teach us poor saps what we need to know. (That's a serious comment by the way)

In my home state of West Virginia, as a tourist from the UK, you may attend any supervised training course recognized by the NRA, a state office of public safety, fish & game department, etc.

I live close enough to this facility that I hear gunfire from the range complex daily:

The applicable section:

Can an alien who enters the United States on a nonimmigrant alien visa rent a firearm for lawful hunting or sporting purposes while in the United States?

A nonimmigrant alien that possess a valid hunting license from a State within the United States or falls within any of the other exceptions or exemptions that allow nonimmigrant aliens to possess firearms may rent firearms to hunt or to use at a shooting range.

RE: Very Nice Concealed Gun
I live near a major urban area that has a lot of international business interests centered nearby. Much of it is involved with the British and Irish medical systems R&D work. Due to that there is a good deal of British presence in my area and several British citizens are members of my local shooting club.

It is easier for the to legally obtain firearms here as legal aliens than it is at home as subjects. All they need is visa, residence proof, and criminal background checks. It might take a week or two for approval of purchase but is fairly painless and is done at the gun shop using our normal computer check system.

I have taken several friends from the UK to my local club when they visited me here in Kentucky. Usually it is the high point of the trip.

I was teasing one visitor, after our all day shooting spree, that she was now qualified on more firearms than most members of the SAS!

What was her favorite, the SKS, the AK, one of the AR rifles, one of the bolt action long range guns, one of the high capacity semi-auto pistols?

Nope!

Her favorites were the 30-30 lever action rifle and my 5 shot .38 snubnose revolver!

She still claims proxi ownership rights on the .38 from 5,000 miles away. I am to never part with "her pistol", she will want to shoot it when she returns.

RE: Very Nice Concealed Gun
I find it amusing, but not surprising that Japanese tourists who come out here for a day of shooting instruction and range time, seem more likely to want to dress up in Cowboy attire than to play Chuck Norris. They eagerly watch demonstrations of casting bullets over a camp fire, loading black powder ammunition with a Lyman tong tool, and enjoy shooting Colt single-actions, Winchester lever-guns and double-barrel 12-bores at make-believe bad guys, then to eat BBQ beef and beans while drinking beer right from the bottle and chasing it with a shot of whisky back in the motel while watching the evening's movie double-feature on the big screen TV, The Magnificent Seven, with Japanese subtitles and narration by Akira Kurosawa detailing his working with Hollywood to adapt The Seven Samurai for American audiences.

One guest watching a cowboy action shoot likened the event to "Gaijin Kendo~!"
