RE: Bushcraft ?
Can you handle a trawler on your own, maintain it etc ? What happens when you run out of fuel or the engine conks out? Can you handle a sailing boat on your own? IMHO I'd live on land and use a dingy for offshore fishing.

Whats the main difference between 'beachcraft' and 'bushcraft' apart from fishing skills (I'm a crap fisherman, I need to practice)

Location I think Harry, when i did my army training and on the courses I did with Eddie Mcgee we learned beach, forest, hill and dale but it was all generally called bushcraft, Mmmmmmm collecting winkles at Robin Hoods bay, yummy. Some folks individual tastes and preferences leads them to focus most on environments they like.

RE: Bushcraft ?
Well to put it in a nutshell I would define beachcraft as coastal foraging and surprisingly fishing as you put it is a very ineffective method of gathering food too time intensive.
And of course just like the land the coast and sea are very seasonal, no good looking for something that wont be there.
Of course bushcraft skills are very useful and are required, but other skills are specific ie fish processing, smoking, drying ect.
I go back to the point it does not matter where you are based but access to coastal foraging is a good asset to have, if you are able to exploit it.

HI SWB

Fishing, coastal foraging etc and storage and processing etc have been discussed at various times, although not recently, so I'm sure others will benefit or join in with a conversation if you want to start a new thread on any such aspects. Here are some previous examples, but there are plenty of other discussions to be found on the forums as well:
