CalExit - We can always hope!

A recent poll found that one in three California residents would support a possible secession from the U.S. due to their opposition to President Trump. No mention has been made of the president in the proposal.

If the proposal qualifies for the ballot and is approved by voters, it could be a step to a future vote on whether the state would break away from the rest of the nation.

Secretary of State Alex Padilla said the group behind the proposal, Yes California Independence Campaign, was cleared to begin attempting to collect nearly 600,000 voter signatures needed to place the plan on the ballot.

"In our view, the United States of America represents so many things that conflict with Californian values, and our continued statehood means California will continue subsidizing the other states to our own detriment, and to the detriment of our children," the Yes campaign's website says.

Similar attempts to establish California as a nation, or break it into multiple states, have failed.

The proposed constitutional amendment, titled California Nationhood, would also ask voters to repeal language that states the U.S. Constitution is the supreme law. If approved, it calls for scheduling a vote in 2019 to ask voters, "Should California become a free, sovereign and independent country?"

"America already hates California, and America votes on emotions," Marcus Evans, vice president of Yes California told the Los Angeles Times. "I think we'd have the votes today if we held it."

The campaign must submit the valid voter signatures by July 25 to qualify for the ballot.

The voters of California have no say in the status if their state in the Union or its ability to leave. That was the singe factor of consideration in the U.S. Civil War and the exact reason it was fought. It seems that people lose sight of that fact on a regular basis. It also seems that the people of California actually think we care what their opinion is!

Anyone advocating the succession of a state is guilty of treason.

A state can only separate from the Union with the permission of all the other states of the Union or by winning a war of rebellion.

If Hillary had won and Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee or Alabama had suggested succession the citizens of California would be calling them fools.

Besides, in spite of the stupidity and weirdness of the place and its people the rest of the Union can not afford to release them. California generates 1/4 of our GNP.

Since the fools are mostly socialists it is only fitting that they subsidize some of the other states and I can ot understand why they are whining about it.

Only if they take Oregon and Washington state with them, build a wall from Canada to Mexico and give up their rights to move in and out of the U.S. at will.

Every state in the west is gripping right now about the fruits, nuts and flakes moving intl their area and trying to turn them into colonies of California.

We do not want them leaving the Union and then the individuals moving back as they tire of the tax burden, fear of the lack of law enforcement or legal discrimination at the hands of the minority coalitions.

Is their drought over then,if it isn't it would be foolish to attempt to leave,as they might need to relocate parts of their economy to other states to survive.

The drought is over and the reservoirs are bursting at the seams. They will be lucky to survive the flooding that will come with the spring thaw.

The California drought was mostly political anyway. The eco-terrorists had stopped the flow of water from the Colorado river to California to insure the survival of some kind of minnow. California was built and dependent on water from the Colorado River from the time of the founding of Los Angeles and the southern California metropolis.

It is not really a drought if you built the city in the desert in the first place, then shut off the water on purpose.

That whole area, from the 100th meridian to the Pacific coast was originally called the "Great American Desert". None of it gets more than 10" of rain in the average year and decades of drought are the norm for that whole corner of the continent.

Every concentration of population in that area has been placed there artificially because there is not enough natural water available to sustain either population or agriculture.
