Hi - I'm making a film - can you help?
Hello,

Straight up - I'm Adam, a film maker for the BBC. I'd like to make a film about the UK survivalist/prepper scene for the BBC News website and social media.

I can sense the trepidation as I write this! I'm not looking to add to the 'doomsday' variety of films that are out there. I want to make a more high brow, informative piece that simply explores what preparations people are making, and why. I want viewers to come away with something to think about, not something to joke about.

The film would be a profile piece on one or a few individuals/families. All filming/editing would be done in such a way as to protect the location of you and your preparations.

As I'm part of BBC South I ideally need to base this film down in the South of England. Berkshire would be the absolute ideal, but I can stretch the 'patch' to Wiltshire/Hampshire/South Oxfordshire/West Sussex.

Alas, there's no cash involved.

If you're interested in telling your story and highlighting the concerns, priorities and efforts of survivalists in the UK, please do drop me a note on here or get in touch direct at adam.paylor@bbc.co.uk.

Thank you for having me on your forum!

Someone is making some cash or no one would bother with all this!

What you mean is that you are not willing to pay anyone the going rate for appearing in your film because you want to keep it all for yourself!

Ripping off the world, deceiving the very people that feed you and taking advantage of the poor preppers that do not see through your greedy nature.

It sounds to me like YOU are what we are prepping against.

Adam,

You are not the first to come on here wanting to make a documentary. Nobody will sign up for that. Journalists are simply just not trusted.

Your role was to ensure the masses were informed about things. It now seems to be to drive the agenda towards a socialist state. Once you start exposing the corruption in Westminster, our move to a police state and a hundred on one other issues in the UK then you may get some takers.

Sorry, Adam, I reckon you have a cat in hell's chance of finding an idiot to co-operate. It completely goes against the grain of what prepping is about. And SD is right, no-one trusts journalists, particularly not the BBC!!

Hmmm. Must be a bit of drama that I'm not aware of with the BBC since I was last part of the UK to get that kind of reaction from all of you.

What about all the YouTube videos you all make? Is that not sharing knowledge? Maybe we have a different definition of "prepping." In my world (and not saying it's the only definition) the more I can persuade YOU to prepare, the less I have to worry about "you" coming after me and mine. And especially in the UK where there is such a mindset of "the government is going to take care of me in a disaster" (not.)

And I don't really care if the BBC or anyone else mocks me or not: when a disaster or riot happens, or the trains go on strike or gas prices jump to ridiculous, who'll be laughing then?

Just my .02.

Hold on . I’m confused . Are you Kathy or Adam ? No , I won’t be disclosing my secret carrot cache for the BBC . I’ll stay safe, wrapped in my prepper prepared tinfoil
Hat .Im also highly armed with a catapult and a mediocre supply of combat and survival magazines . You won’t be catching me with my trousers up .

Kathy,

I've made no Youtube videos. Those that do tend to be based in the US where at least they have some protection.

If you don't recognise how biased the BBC is then you must have the best pair of shades I have ever heard of. Everyone knows they are biased.

Finally, every UK prepper that has volunteered for a documentary has ended up looking like a nutter and have had their OPSEC blown.

Ah, The Bolshevik Broadcasting Corporation, or is it The Brexit Bashing Corporation?
Take your pick...

As an American prepper I must echo the words of Skean Dhude and add that most of the "prepper videos" done over here are presented by those of less than average intelligence who are seeking attention for some reason.

Intelligent preppers do not tell anyone what they have, how it is used, or where it is located. NO ONE!

The advice presented on You-tube is suspect to say the least. Especially that presented by individuals wearing ball caps, wrap around sun glasses and black hoodies.

What is very prolific on You tube are videos of bushcraft skills, such as shelter building, fire building, water purification and such which are wilderness skills and not specifically "prepping". These people are often mistaken for preppers when that is not their focus or intent.

And yes, the media is biased, and if one is working for the media, and does not see the bias, then they are part of the problem and not part of the solution. This is why we refuse to cooperate with media no matter what is promised or how it is to be presented. Even if YOU make a good film it is subject to editing by the "corporation" before presentation to the public.

EVERY prepper related article I have ever read/watched in any mainstream media presentation has never failed to present the individuals involved as not just different, but also mentally deficient, marginally or completely criminally suspect, and without doubt dangerous to themselves and others, and therefore qualifying for institutionalization and treatment in the nearest mental health facility.

It might be subtle, but it is there.
