RE: Barter items
you have to remember that even in Britain 80% of the population now lives, works, shops and dies in the big cities, they all have modern attitudes and assumptions, most are anti gun and anti hunting and vegan/vegetarianism is rife.
these people have no idea where their food comes from or even sometimes which animal.
I dont say they wont give up without a fight but their chances are slim to none at all once the modern systems shut down.
most of here have been preppers, survivalists and growers for a considerable length of time and its not something one picks up in 5 minutes and especially post disaster.
the time period may slip a bit but most people wont survive for more than a few months at the most, the majority will make stupid mistakes and it will only take one mistake in a disaster to end their lives.
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

Absolutely right, BP. Most people have become so disconnected from nature and basic survival that they really don't know how their food is produced or where it comes from. To give you an example, the grandson of a friend of mine thinks eggs come from Tesco.... not chickens. They have no chance.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

This modern life we are all living, is neither "normal" nor "natural", it is Artificial at best.
as the populations got bigger people came together to benefit from advances and efficiencies in public service, the other side of that coin is that you make people so dependent on those services that when the system collapses they wont be able to look after themselves never mind anyone else.
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.
