They say humans closest genetic relatives are bonobo chimps, but I'm sure we are more closely related to lemmings, they have a sort of socialism about them and they also commit mass suicide.

dont think so, lemmings commit mass suicide, our nearest relatives are the chimps and the great apes, so once mankind is gone these will take our place.....unless the dinosaurs make a comeback that isTongue

hmmm maybe the chimps will have a game called humans, we got one called lemmings after all!
In the coldest utilitarian terms, the population will simply decrease to fit the technology base. I always cringe a little inside when people try to cure the things that are barely keeping the human population in check. It's not really PC, but it would be stupid to think we can keep everyone alive.

you are so right, once the technology goes down so will the population, i've been looking at the map of South Devon the area i was brought up in, Plymouth..my home town but not where i live now...has a population of 250,000, once you get out of the city it thins out a bit until you get to the South Hams area, Totnes, Paignton, Torquay then its pretty solid all the way to Exeter, the Kingskerswell area is horrendous, traffic is nose to tail, i'm glad we got out when we did, i think if i lived there now i would go mad.most of the (south) Devon population is concentrated around the coast which is where the original settlements where located.

Yeah society will have to change but it could have its positives, Imagine stoking your campfire with the bodies of trade unionists, or torturing public sector workers beyond their belief by making them actually do a full weeeks work !!!!
