Ive decided to change my tack on bugging out tactics. We have a caravan pre-position on higher ground it is set up on a camp site we use it for week-ends away. We have 2 landrover discoveries set up for offroading, The main vehicle that i use has winch, underbody protection, suspension lifted 2 inches and bigger tyres to give better ground clearence plus all the usual things that you would find on an offreoad vehicle.

But now im converting it into an overland expedition vehicle. The roof rack now has a roof tent http://www.mywayrooftents.co.uk/myway-ro...ADDONS-19/ . The rear door panel has been removed and replaced with a metal panel to which ive fitted a fold down table that will take a cooker and has a small but very functional work surface.
The rear cargo area has a false floor with 2 compartments to take 2 pre-loaded with boxes mostly tools spare parts and recovery equipment. The sides has 2 cut outs for jerry cans 1 diesel and 1 water. Something along these lines http://www.overland-rovers.com/ralphs-pa...ystem.html.

But the biggest change ive just bought a second sankey 3/4 ton trailer that over the coming months i will strip back to the chassis and build an expedition trailer along these lines http://www.bundutrailers.co.za/photos.htm .

This would give us a very flexible bug out kit

i've been thinking of getting a small trailer for years, something i can do up and adapt for when TSHTF, but need to clear out some stuff as the drive isnt big enough for everything i want!!
Ive thought about trying to make one of those white box trailers you see that people often use for house moving. Its making it off road suitable, not sure if just making the ride height higher and better tyres on it would suffice.
Maybe fatter tyres with not to much air in would help if you cant get suspension on there.
when I think about it you are going to get a lot of bounce and twist from the trailer if you go offroad without something like suspension or fat tyres
