Newbie on here. Could someone please explain the "thanks" protocol on the forum? I've never come across it on a forum before (must have led a sheltered life!).

Is it like the Facebook "like" button?

Yes mate - it is....if you like the comment that has been made or have found it useful , then let the poster know he/she has made a difference.

On another note - a great blog , I hope you settle into life up in the highlands of my nation very well , it sounds like you've made a good start.
